JULY 2019/MUSCLE & FITNESS 71
- apply this attitude to your social media
account. If time management and
consistency isn’t your thing then consider
using a social media management tool
with a built-in scheduling function and
filters to ensure your posts look dapper
and turn up on time.
DO- Post high quality photographs that
represent you and your brand. Not too
handy with a camera? You could
consider purchasing professional stock
images
POST CONTENT AT REGULAR
INTERVALS
Make sure your content is relevant
to your audience
DON’T- Use a mismatch of images
from a range of different sources,
especially if they are poor quality or
the dimensions don’t fit the platform’s
specifications correctly
ENGAGEMENT
Don’t worry, you don’t have to declare
your undying love and propose but you
do have to respond to any comments
made on your post and you have to do it
quickly – time is definitely of the essence
here! The first hour of posting content on
social media is crucial. The 2019
algorithm for Facebook and Instagram
monitors the engagement your content
has in its first hour of posting and then
decides how many additional people
to show it to i.e. more engagement in
the first hour, bigger audience reach!
DO- Reply to every comment made on
your post, even if it’s a SPAM or auto
comment
Write personal and thoughtful replies,
make your clients or potential clients
feel valued
Where possible, include other people
in your reply by mentioning them and
tagging
DON’T- Ignore comments, this could be
a potential client you are not showing
any interest in
Reply with just emojis, mainly because
it’s impersonal but also because the
algorithm won’t count them towards
your engagement
GROW YOUR AUDIENCE
You want your fitness business to be
seen by the largest audience possible
but more importantly, you need your
audience to stay loyal to you. Building
a network of loyal supporters is one of
the most time-consuming aspects of
social media management but if you do
it correctly; it will be time well spent.
DO- Follow people who have similar
interests
Follow and engage with your
competitor’s audience
Use hashtags. Using specific
and relevant hashtags helps you
connect with people who are
looking for exactly what you’re posting.
E.g. #recipewithmacros
DON’T- Follow random people and then
unfollow them, this is damaging to your
brand
Buy followers. Purchased followers
won’t interact with your posts, this will
cause damage to your potential real
audience
MEASURE & ANALYSE
Track your Return on Investment (ROI)
right from the very first day, Remember,
the time spent creating content is a huge
investment, you want to make sure you
are getting your money’s worth. If people
are not interacting, they are not believing
in the product or service you are offering,
and you need to change your approach.
Progress shots (before and after), tend
to do well at grabbing people’s attention.
(Remember the do’s and don’ts with your
photos – take them yourself whenever
possible to stay consistent!)
Some of the metrics that you want
to look for include:
Reach and engagement for Facebook
Impressions, visits and mentions on
Twitter
Impressions, clicks and interactions on
LinkedIn
Impressions and engagement on
Pinterest
Likes, comments and mentions on
Instagram
YouTube views
Successful social media marketing
poses a variety of challenges to
businesses. Stay with it, stay focused and
watch your fitness empire grow as big as
your biceps!
