Evenbetter,wemanagedto getthemto LaPazin timefortheir
onwardflight.Ourfirstoutingas aninternationaloverlandairport
shuttle and tour guiding service was a resounding success.
Descendingfromover4,500metersatLaCumbre,aboveLa
Pazdownto 1,200metersat Coroicois popularwithmountainbik-
erswhodon’twanttopedaluphill,whichis probablythemostfun
waytoenjoythisroad.Thenumberssoundedimpressive,andthe
roadcertainlywas.
However,afterthenarrow,windingswitchbacksandtunnelsof
Peru,thislazyjungleroadseemedcharmingratherthanterrifying.
Theviewswere,ofcourse,spectacular;a perfect,scenicendtothe
journeybeforea hastyretreattoLaPazforanearly-morningflight.
We’repleased toreport thatBen’s parentsnotonlysurvived
