3000 and had entered it into a Healey-

exclusive event called The Longest

Night, which involves driving for 750km

(466 miles) around the Netherlands,

starting at 4pm and finishing at 8.30am

the next day. His Healey wasn’t ready

in time for the event (he was making

a wiring loom for it) so the organisers

kindly allowed him to participate in his
Cooper S. Unofficially, he finished sixth
but, considering this was an all-Healey
event, he gratefully accepted the chance
to participate but not be counted.
Appreciating the compactness of
the Mini, he can see its appeal as
an historic rally car, explaining: “It’s

small, fast and everybody loves it. It’s
slower on the long sections than other
competitors but, on short sections
and corners, it’s much faster.”

Peter Gaasbeek would like to thank:
“Eric van de Einden for helping me to turn
my Cooper S into an historic rally car.”
