ARTIST: Richard Hawley
LABEL: BMG
Price: £8 (Amazon)
As Hawley’s eighth studio album,
this is perhaps the culmination of a
singer-songwriter finally finding his
rightful groove. Each of this CD’s 11
tracks work as effective, tight and
well-rounded vignettes that capitalise
on Hawley’s distinctive vocals and
first-class orchestration. It’s a definite
grower. AS

■Angels in Blue
ARTIST: Find Me
LABEL: Frontiers
Price: £12.99 (Amazon)
Meld a Journey-esque sound with a
generous helping of Survivor and a
dash of Toto and you have this album
- something that truly would have set
MTV on fire in the late-’80s/early ’90s.
It’s my first ‘must listen’ album of 2019,
and one created by a superbly talented
bunch of musicians, fronted by the
best AOR vocalist you’ve never heard
of – Robbie LaBlanc (who? –ed). SC
■Glass
Actors: James McAvoy,
Bruce Willis, Samuel L Jackson
Certificate: 15
Runtime: 124 minutes
Price: £9.99 (Amazon)
Though writer/director M Night
Shyamalan’s output can be
decidedly hit and miss, this sequel
to Unbreakable and Split (two of his
better efforts) isn’t actually half bad.
It’s a comic-book thriller that sees a
couple of 'superheros' (McAvoy’s
Beast and Willis’ indestructible
Overseer) brought to a psychiatric
hospital, where they are to be
convinced they are not actually
superheroes after all. From there,
things get seriously twisty – but in a
good way, thankfully. AS
■The Mule
Actors: Clint Eastwood,
Bradley Cooper,
Laurence Fishburne
Certificate: 15
Runtime: 112 minutes
Price: £9.99 (Amazon)
The latest directorial effort from
Clint Eastwood is a cracker.
Eastwood plays Earl, and 80-year-
old down on his luck whose bank
account is running dry due to his
business failing. But then he’s
offered a chance to make some
decent cash – and all he has to
do is drive. And so begins Earl’s
second life as a delivery man
– though Earl has no idea he’s
actually transporting drugs for a
Mexican cartel... AS
