We’ve said before that the New Gen
Scania can look a bit awful – even
borderline ‘plasticky’ – when in plain
factory white and with no livery or
branding applied to the chassis. Yet
once they are properly painted
(traditional or modern), they can look
truly superb. The Thory trucks
certainly prove that point rather well.
Likewise, the change from the older
Scania models to the New Gens is one
of the most striking and advancing
we’ve seen in recent times.

While Scanias might be aspirational,

DAFs could be described as ‘offering

all things to all men’. They can be as

plain, corporate or even as ‘boring’ as

you like, but then the XF especially

lends itself to being turned into a

first-class flagship with relative ease.

Looks and kudos still can be an

important factor to some drivers, and

indeed some operators – and both

these trucks can deliver this.

Payload potential

Thory used to operate a lot of trusty

and dependable Fodens, but following

the end of production of these fine

trucks – amazingly some 13 years ago

now – this has seen the firm progress

mostly to DAFs, though it has also run

Volvos and now Scanias.

It needs to maximise payloads for

much of its work, and some of the

trucks in the fleet are as light as

possible – eg, DAF CF FTPs with

DAF XF: INTERIOR
