RULES:



  • The competition is open to all artists resident in South Africa during 2019 and 2020.

  • The entry fee per artwork is R200.

  • On receipt of the registration and entry fee, a confirmation email will be sent to the artist.

  • The digital entry form on the South African Artist website must be completed, including payment, by 23h59 on 31 December 2019.

  • All correspondence with artists will be via email.

  • The top 20 finalists will be notified that they have been selected for the exhibition by no later than Friday 31 January 2020.

  • Artists should be aware that all works are judged on an equal and anonymous basis.

  • The South African Artist reserves the right to disqualify any piece of work if the artist has not adhered to the rules, even if the work has been selected
    for exhibition.

  • The work entered must be predominantly painted in oil, tempera, charcoal, graphite, acrylic, watercolours or pastels, or a combination thereof. No
    photography or digitally produced work will be considered.

  • The work entered should be a painting based on the competition theme: “A still life reimagined”.

  • The artwork must be your own original work and may not be a copy of another artists’ painting.

  • Any photographic reference used must be your own or you must have written permission from the photographer, to use the image.

  • Paintings will be judged anonymously so should not be signed on the front.

  • It is a requirement that each artist should upload an image of their work when registering for the competition. Please note that the first round of
    judging is completed digitally. It is therefore important that the photograph uploaded by the artist is of the best quality.

  • If your painting has been selected as a top 20 finalist, you will be responsible for delivery to the judging venue in Cape Town by 14th February 2020.

  • The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
