EASE INFLAMMATION
Studies have shown
that apple-cider
vinegar may have
antibacterial
properties, so try
it to prevent infection
and clear blisters. Soak
blistered feet in it,
or dab some on the
affected area.
Sesame seeds may protect
cartilage. A study shows
that 40g of sesame-seed
powder a day reduced
knee pain in those who
took the powder
alongside medication,
compared to those
only on drugs
for arthritis.

Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory
- some studies show it can even be
just as good as some anti-
inflammatory drugs (without
the side effects). For
maximum benefit,
take it with black
pepper, which
increases its
absorption.
Olive oil is a
multipurpose
moisturiser,
packed with
skin-nourishing
vitamins. Rub a
little into flaky
patches on your
face, chapped
lips, dry heels
or rough elbows.
Ginger has anti-inflammatory
properties and is a traditional remedy
for headaches – especially migraines,
because it can also help ease nausea.
Add about a teaspoon of fresh ginger
to a cup, pour boiling water over it,
leave to infuse for 10 minutes, then
drink. You can add honey, to taste.
Cinnamon may
help balance
blood sugar and
keep you feeling
fuller for longer
- studies have
found that even
1g a day can have
an effect. But
be careful not to
overdo it as too
much can be toxic.
Camomile tea
has natural
anti-inflammatory
agents. Make a mug
of it with boiling
water and add a
little salt. When
cool, soak two
cotton pads in the
tea, then lie back
and relax with the
pads over your eyes.
BOOST BONES
Sage is high in
vitamin K, which
aids bone health
(a deficiency of
this vitamin leads to
thinning bones and
increased fractures).
Simply place two
sage leaves in a cup
and pour boiling
water over them;
leave to infuse.
BEAT CONSTIPATION
Linseeds (also called
flaxseeds) are full of
fibre, and they soothe
the lining of the intestines
- which makes them great
for constipation. Soak
a teaspoon full in water
overnight and drink the
next morning to get your
digestive system moving.
