PLANNINg THE PROjECT

Having been given quotes from several plumbers, Lucy
and Daniel decided that it would be more cost-effective
for Daniel and his brother-in-law to carry out the labour
on the bathroom themselves. Switching around the
previous layout and reconfiguring the plumbing took
some time to complete, because the couple moved
the toilet and sink. They also installed a new shower
where the old bath used to be and fitted a separate
free-standing bath.
Most of the work ran smoothly and they were able
to continue using the bathroom during the project,
aside from a few weeks when they had to shower at
Lucy’s mom’s house down the road. Doing all the work
themselves may have taken a little longer, but it meant
the couple were able to stay within their budget.
‘I love all things rustic and vintage, which is the style
we chose for the rest of the house, but we decided to
go for a more modern and clean feel in the bathroom,’
says Lucy. ‘Most of my decor inspiration came from
Instagram, as I use it for my interior design business,
and I stumbled across some wonderful ideas like the
black-framed shower screen, which I instantly knew I
had to have in my own space! I went for simple, white
metro tiles to keep the look clean and then painted the
walls in a subtle blush pink colour to soften the black
detailing in the taps and shower.’

STYLINg THE SPACE

‘To make the room fit in with the rest of the
house, I couldn’t resist adding a few rustic
touches in the smaller details, and some
plants to make it feel fresh and homely,’
says Lucy. ‘The vintage-inspired bath is my
favourite part of the room and it feels like
a completely different space to when we
first bought the house. Now the hard work
is finished, it’s so rewarding to finally enjoy
the room we spent so long planning – it
was definitely worth the wait!’

‘I’m always on the lookout for fabulous

vintage pieces for my interior design

shop – I just can’t help but bring home

a few for myself sometimes!’

‘We had the bespoke vanity unit made
to fit the countertop his-and-hers sinks
I bought,’ explains Lucy. Mixing and
matching statement pieces with basics
is a good way to keep your costs down.

The ornate window frosting had been installed by the
previous owners, but Lucy decided to keep it as the
detailed design makes a cute feature and offers privacy.
