The New York Yankees put first
baseman Luke Voiton the 10-day
injured list Wednesday because of
a sports hernia that may require
surgery.
Voit was removed from New
York’s 4-2 loss to the Arizona Di-
amondbacks on Tuesday night
and went for an MRI exam, which
revealed the injury. Manager
Aaron Boonesaid the team was
still evaluating the severity.
The Yankees expect to deter-
mine in the next day or two
whether Voit will require surgery,
which would take him out of the
lineup for about six weeks. If Voit
doesn’t need an operation, Boone
said it will be a “day-to-day scenar-
io.”
Voit is batting .278 with 19 home
runs and an .885 on-base-plus-
slugging percentage.

Moncada is sidelined

Ahamstring strain has forced
Chicago White Sox third baseman
Yoan Moncadato the IL.
Moncada, who is batting .301
with 20 home runs, suffered the in-
jury Tuesday against the New York
Mets.

Laureano to sit out

Oakland Athletics center field-
er Ramon Laureanowas put on
the IL because of a stress reaction
in his right shin.
Laureano is batting .284 with 21
home runs.
