“Clients can be on the red carpet for hours being photographed and

interviewed, so how do you keep your lipstick on your lips all night,

and not halfway across your face?”

“When you’re up against the elements,

achieving that red carpet look is not

always easy. Here’s how to get the glow...”

D

espite the snow, broken boilers and Beasts from the East,
in movie land, this time of year is the most glamorous of
seasons. Think BAFTAs, BRITs, BIFAs, Golden Globes, and
of course, The Oscars. For me, award season is a frenetic
but fabulous time of the year – it’s also one of the busiest.
But, when you’re up against the elements, achieving that red
carpet look is not always easy.
Skin prep is vital for keeping the look fresh, and for holding
make-up well. Cleanse with Moksa Chamomile Cleansing Oil –
it removes all residue make-up, and cleanse again with Burt’s
Bees Micellar Water to leave skin super-clean. To increase
radiance, apply Tata Harper’s new Hydrating Floral Mask for
10 minutes, and follow with Merumaya’s Gentle Exfoliating
Toner. Apply Adarci Awakening Eye Cream and Skyn Iceland
Pure Cloud Cream to smooth ine lines.
Applying a primer is key to blur pores and even out skin
texture, so that your foundation applies like a dream. There’s
three I always use: Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer, Inika Organic
Pure Primer with Hyaluronic Acid, and Juice Beauty’s Stem
Cellular CC cream, which transforms dry skin in seconds.
I promise you’ll never look back! Leave skin for a couple of
minutes, then apply your foundation using the Nanshy Flat
Topped Foundation Brush. I choose lat top brushes, as the
density of the ibres gives skin a natural inish. To give your
foundation a polished efect, feather over the skin with a soft
inishing brush; the So Eco Stippling Brush does the job perfectly.
Certain products, under lash photography, create ‘lashback,’
where you look ghostly on the areas where you’ve applied them.
Foundations with SPF can do this, as well as powders, highlighters
and light-relecting products which contain certain oxides. For the
evening, stick to foundations without SPF, and avoid light-
relecting products, unless they are tried and tested. My go-to
products are Cover FX Power Play Foundation, Bare Minerals
Well Rested Under Eye Brightener, Jecca Concealer Palette,

and Delilah
Pure Light
Illuminating
Powder.
Unless you
have oily skin,
only powder the
T-zone, to maintain
a natural sheen on
the skin. RMS Beauty
Un-Cover Up and
Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush
Flawless Finish Powders are irm favourites.
I’m not a fan of waterproof mascara. I ind some heavy, clumpy
and diicult to remove. However, if you’re walking the red carpet,
it comes in handy. An actress at her ilm première in rainy
London, with smudged mascara, would get me ired in a New
York second. So, instead of waterproof mascara, I prefer to use
my favourites like Lily Lolo Big Lash Mascara, then coat them
with the genius product NYX Cosmetics Proof It Waterproof
Mascara Topcoat. It does just that, waterprooing whatever
mascara you’re wearing – so come rain, shine, or tears, that
mascara is staying put.
Clients can be on the red carpet for hours being photographed
and interviewed, so how do you keep your lipstick on your lips all
night, and not halfway across your face? Personally, I don’t like
the feeling of a lipstick sealant, and I prefer to run an ice cube
over the lips to lock in colour. It’s old school, but it works.
Alternatively, stick to a long-lasting matt formulation and you
can’t go wrong. Try Urban Decay Comfort Matt Vice Lipsticks or
Studded Creme Kiss Lipsticks by Kat Von D. Applying matching
lip liner to the entirety of your lip gives the lips a solid base,
and more depth of colour. Finally, a spritz of Cover FX High
Performance Setting Spray, and your make-up is red carpet ready!
