CLARK

A state-of-the-art new museum dedicated to
motorsport icon, Jim Clark will open in the
Scottish borders this month.
The Jim Clark Motorsport Museum at Duns
in the Scottish Borders will replace the
existing Jim Clark Room following a £1.6 million
revamp and will feature a wealth of
Clark-related memorabilia.
Two of the legend’s race cars will form the
centrepiece, alongside an expanded and
dynamic exhibition space showcasing
memorabilia and more than 100 trophies won
during his career.
New image galleries, film footage, interactive
displays, technology and education zones, will
give the museum a modern feel, and the trust is
also working on the development of a tourist
trail around the area, taking in locations
associated with Clark.
The museum is due to open on July 11. Find

New Hollywood movie documents the car

giants’ infamous ’60s Le Mans battle

FORD VERSUS

FERRARI

here are few motor-racing rivalries as
fascinating as the one between
Ford and Ferrari in the late 1960s.
The desire to be top dog at Le Mans was born
out of a personal feud between Enzo Ferrari and
Henry Ford II, and led directly to the creation of
the GT40 and to the American marque’s four
successive La Sarthe triumphs between 1966
and 1969.
Now a new Hollywood starring Matt Damon
and Christian Bale is bringing that race to the big
screen — and judging by the first trailer, it’s
going to be well worth watching.
Ford v Ferrari (also known as Le Mans 66) will
focus on the relationship between design
visionary, Carroll Shelby (played by Damon) and
driver Ken Miles (Bale) as they developed the

T

GT40, and looks like having a good mix of realistic
on-track action and a decent storyline.
Interestingly, the infamous La Sarthe circuit at
Le Mans, which no longer resembles that of the
1960s, was not used for filming. The set was
located instead at Agua Dulce Airpark, a private
airport in Santa Clarita, California that features a
half-mile airstrip that production used as racing
track, alongside which were constructed three
large segments of grandstands, the Ford and
Ferrari pits, and the international press box —
recreated using archive images, documents and
props supplied by Automobile Club de l’Ouest
who host the Le Mans 24 Hours race.
Ford v Ferrari will be released on November 15.
