Europe sadly never got a 3-litre Mk5 Cortina, but
South Africa did and that’s exactly where Les
looked, with Car Cave importing the former GLS
auto for him three years ago. Battered but solid,
the GLS, which also came with cruise control as
standard, proved the perfect base for Les’ plans,
and he took it to Upwood Auto Centre for
recommissioning, where they tended to the
bodywork and rebuilt the V6, adding a V61 cam,
Holley carb and Swaymar inlet. Tiger Racing
resprayed the car in Diamond White, 3.0S decals
and 15s were added and Les was good to point
the Mk5 at the horizon and press the loud pedal.LIKE YOUR CAR!
Hhmm, BDG...August 2019 25Dave Ward’s Capri V8 is as much at home on
the track is it is at the strip, and was flying.We’re more used to seeing Frank Frostick’s
blue Mk2 Escort at shows and tours, but he
also owns this Cossie Sierra track car.
