Classic Ford – August 2019

Isaac Marriott

From: UK
Van: Mk4 Escort
Superbly restored by Mad Ford
Engineering in the UK for a customer
based in Tampa Florida USA, this
Mk4 started out its life as a left-hand-
drive generator vehicle for the British
Army, which started helicopters
posted in Germany. Then after
service it was auctioned off to a
motorbike maintenance business
based in London, which was used by

them for many years. “The American
owner bought it in the middle of last
year,” says Isaac, “and since then
has been restored back to better-
than-factory condition.”
“It was originally a naturally-
aspirated diesel, but now it has been
turbo’d by Mad Ford, and we’ve added
a rear brake disc conversion, RS Turbo
interior and bodykit, and Mk5 RS2000
wheels. We decided to leave on the
Earth straps fitted by the army!”

Rich Carver
From: UK
Car: Mk2 Granada
First featured back in 2011, Rich has been constantly
tinkering with his Mk2 ever since, and as you can see,
he’s not stopping yet!
“I’ve been retrimming the interior — all by hand
thanks to the stupid sewing machine calling it a day 10
inches into the job. The inside is now almost finished
including a plumbed-in extinguisher, nitrous, buckets,
steering wheel, harnesses, plus colour-coded mirrors,
dechroming and a few other extras — just the RS body
kit to repair and fit and she’ll be ready for the road again
in 2020... unless I find an affordable water injection kit,
then the tools will be back out!”
“The engine bay has been taken apart too, and
repainted or powdercoated depending on what it was.
I’ve added a new air filter system, removed the viscous
fan, the turbo has been given a space jacket plus some
rewiring. It’s only taken me 26 years so far...”

Nitrous? Cheeky...
