PETER MELVIN
Car: Mk1 Escort
Spec: NA Cosworth YB, Quaife 60G, Atlas
As midnight approaches on Friday night
Aberdeen baker, Peter Melvin, loads up the
Indian Red Mk1 Escort ready for the 7 hour
drive to Santa Pod for a weekend of racing.
Having owned the car for around 12 years,
there’s been a number of upgrades over that
time. “The engine is now a Wayne Mitchell
atmo Cosworth with 292 bhp at the fl ywheel
and running a six-speed sequential gearbox.”
Peter also runs his own garage by night
which has enabled him to do most things
himself, “apart from the engine building/
tuning and fi tting of the gears in the Atlas rear
axle, I have pretty much done everything on
the car myself.” Peter has been racing at Crail
Raceway for the last 19 years so drag racing is
not new to him. Having followed the OSFDC
in Classic Ford he decided to join in with the
racing. At round 2, Peter ran a stonking 11.1
and despite some bogging off the line, he’s
heading nicely towards those 10s.Round 5
