LODGINGS

FAIRMONT QUEEN ELIZABETH
The room renovations, with bold artistic direction,
resulted in bright, dynamic interiors that reflect Montreal’s
energetic pulse. Probably the most famous room is the John
Lennon and Yoko Ono Suite (#1742), where they held their
bed-in in 1969, and where Lennon composed and recorded
Give Peace a Chance. The redesigned room has the furniture
arranged in the same way Lennon and Ono had it, along
with new technical elements including reproductions and
videos installed in the suite.
An impressive art collection is displayed throughout the
hotel and its spacious new lobby. MASSIVart Collection was
given the mandate to curate a collection that would
showcase emerging local artists, with over 123 new works
by 37 contemporary artists from Quebec and across
Canada, establishing The Fairmont Queen Elizabeth as a
pioneer in art conservation among hotels worldwide.
Set along the main lobby and facing the street is Bar
Nacarat. Inspired by the Glam-Rock era, the hotel’s cocktail
bar is anchored by multiple stations drawing inspiration
from the open-kitchen concept. Besides a range of fine
spirits, there’s a great selection of the craft beers Quebec is
renowned for.
Marché Artisans is the first gourmet market restaurant in
a Canadian hotel. Created for local residents,
businesspeople and public transit users passing through
Gare Central, as well as hotel guests, this 8,000-square-foot
space space is a gourmet supermarket with eat-in counter
tops, like a contemporary diner. At ten stations, visitors can
enjoy sustainable, local fare as well as international
products. From hand-made pizzas, a raw bar, pastas and
salads, to stations offering hot, freshly roasted meat, this is
truly a culinary paradise.
Walking into the newly transformed Fairmont Queen
Elizabeth, I was unprepared for such a breathtaking
revitalization — one that now captures what Montreal
epitomizes — great hospitality, cuisine, art and culture.
