FOUR REAL Gemma
and Chesney are
expecting quads
CORONATION STREET
ITV, 7.30pm & 8.30pm
Gemma and Chesney are interviewed on Radio
Weatherfield about their quads, with the DJ Jane
urging listeners to send their support for the
couple to get married.
Chesney later plucks up the courage to open
up to Gemma about his feelings towards her, but
as he leans in for a kiss, they are interrupted
by someone.
Meanwhile, Alya and Ryan decide to set Maria
up with Ali on a date. And elsewhere, Kevin is
unimpressed that Paula stayed the night.
UNNATURAL
WONDERS
Steve in the jungle
EXPEDITION WITH
STEVE BACKSHALL
DAVE, 8pm
Up there with the most hardcore
of explorers, Steve Backshall
ventures into uncharted territory
in this series, and it’s all rather
tense.
In the opening scenes, Steve is
in the Guiana Shield, South
America, abseiling down a
vertical drop by a waterfall as
rocks come crashing down
around him.
“It was like an explosion, like a
grenade going off,” he says. “If
those rocks hit my head, a helmet
wouldn’t make any difference.
You will be dead in an instant.”
Steve is freaked out, and you
might well start biting your nails
as he and a team of local experts
pursue undiscovered natural
wonders.
It’s a vast jungle and they are a
10-month walk from the nearest
village.
“We are hell and gone from
nowhere,” says Steve.
From moments of fear – in the
knowledge that they would not be
rescued – to moments of sheer
wonder, this is a fascinating
insight into a lost world.

Everyone in the village is starting to gossip about
Jai and Laurel’s relationship. Jai is grilled by a
surprising person when Arthur quizzes him
about his intentions.
Meanwhile, Rishi is busy reassuring Jai and
Priya that the factory is safe, glossing over the
fact he is considering doing a deal with Kim Tate.
Elsewhere, Jamie continues plotting for Kim to
sign over the shares to him.
And after her kiss with Nate, Moira wonders
whether she should fire him.

SHOP WELL FOR LESS?
BBC1, 8pm
The Barnett family home is run like a
well-oiled machine – and with 10 of
them, it jolly well needs to be.
But mum Caroline, dad John and
their eight kids, aged 20 years to
20 months, feel money is getting
tighter and would love enough cash
for a new bathroom.
“I’d like to think that I’m savvy with
money,” says Caroline, who diligently
budgets, buys in bulk and saves for
holidays and Christmas. But is she?
Alex Jones and Steph McGovern
snoop around the house to discover
they are guilty of big brand spending.
“Classic trap,” says Alex.
The Barnetts are also horrified to
discover they’ve spent £800 on
Barbie dolls and £600 on Lego.
This is the fun bit. All their beloved
brands are banned and replaced in
plain packaging – so they have no idea
what’s been swapped and what hasn’t.
Will they notice? And ultimately,
how much cash could they save? The
results are eye-watering.
FIRST STEPS Little
Safina struggles to walk
ANIMAL BABIES: FIRST
YEAR ON EARTH
BBC2, 9pm
The sight of a baby elephant
sliding around in mud,
desperate to stand up but
completely failing, is like a
scene from You’ve Been
Framed. It will certainly make
you smile.
Camerawoman Sue Gibson
giggles as the newborn calf, which
she has named Safina, struggles to
get back up on four legs. It’s a bit
like watching Bambi trying to take
its first steps. “It’s so undignified,”
says Sue, who also captures Safina
later flicking her trunk around,
unsure exactly what to do with it.
Sue is in Kenya following
the baby elephant through its first
year of life.
Elsewhere, two other wildlife
camera operators also follow
newborn animals through this
critical time.
The first year is one of the most
difficult and dangerous, with
threats from rivals, preda-
tors and the elements as
they learn to survive.
This episode covers the
first three months, as the
animal babies get to grips
with several challenges. And
in a unique format, the
camera operators step into
shot to talk us through what’s
happening. There’s a lot of anxiety,
but plenty of cute scenes too.
In Sri Lanka, a week-old macaque
must learn to survive in a world
surrounded by humans.
On the edge of the Arctic,
five-week-old fox cubs
have to figure out the
business of hunting before
the winter sets in.
An otter pup, named
Limpet, is born in the
Californian fishing port
of Monterey.
And in Uganda, watch out for a
tiny eight-week-old mountain
gorilla having a nap on his mum.
All together now, ahhhh...
