side in the days after the row. The pair
reportedly survived the row and are
“closer than ever” according to pals –
rumours are even circulating Mr
Johnson will propose when the ink on
his divorce is dry.
There are reports she and Mr
Johnson have bought a £1.3million
four-bed home in Camberwell, South
London, after finalising the sale of Mr
Johnson’s marital home. The pair have
reportedly taken out a joint mortgage.
A friend said: “Boris and Carrie
wanted to buy somewhere together as
a sign of commitment. They will get
married when they can and use this
as a marital home. This does not
change anything about No 10.”

peace of mind. I’m 99.9 per cent sure
that nothing happened to me, but I
will never know.”
After making a rare public
appearance by Mr Johnson’s side at his
campaign launch – events would see
her once again shuttled out of the
limelight. Last month a row at Ms
Symond’s £650,000 South London
home saw the police called after a
neighbour reported hearing her yell:
“get off me” and “get out of my flat” and
Mr Johnson who reportedly told her
to “get off my f***ing laptop”.
The story engulfed the couple.
Eventually, it was left to the Carrie
camp to douse the growing media
flames – leaking a staged photograph
of the couple speaking in the country-

beaming with his
son’s partner when
the pair protested
Japan’s decision to
legalise whale
hunting.
She has also
campaigned about
tightening rules
around how serious
criminals such as
rapists are freed on
parole. Aged just 20, she testified in
court against black cab rapist John
Worboys. A passenger in his taxi, she
had accepted a spiked drink and fell
unconscious.
Later, waiving her right to
anonymity, she said could not
remember what happened to her. She

were good they were
great. When times
were bad they were
awful. It’s the most
up-and-down rela-
tionship I have had.”
Ms Symond’s was
also seen as a divisive
figure inside the
Conservative party,
with staff privately
complaining she was
lazy and often took credit for the work
of junior staff.
Since leaving frontline politics Ms
Symonds has stepped up her
environmental campaigning –
winning the affection of at least one
member of the Johnson clan.
Boris’s father Stanley was pictured

his wife. Furious Ms Wheeler, who had
weathered her husband’s infidelities
before, filed for divorce.
Friends of Carrie’s said Mr Johnson’s
marriage had been on the rocks for
years before she came on the scene.
As the news of the affair broke,
Carrie left her post at Conservative
campaign HQ.
Earlier this month The Mirror
reported she was asked to leave amid
accusations she was abusing her
expenses and wasn’t up to the job of
being the Tories’ PR chief.
Friends dismissed the portrayal of
her as volatile as “politically moti-
vated”, but one ex-boyfriend Oliver
Haiste told the Mail on Sunday that
his relationship with Carrie had been
“tumultuous”. He said: “When times

Hiding a murky private life

LATER today removal men will
do a quick change at the back
of No 10. One van will take Mrs
May’s belongings from the
Downing Street flat. As it
leaves, a second will arrive full
of the shiny new furniture we
have bought for Boris...
because his estranged wife
Marina has “kept all his stuff’.
But there’ll be no sign of
that wine-stained sofa, or,
indeed, of mistress Carrie
Symonds, who will be
smuggled in at the weekend.
Our new PM believes he has
the right to hide his messy
private life behind the nation’s
most famous front door. He
doesn’t think his history of
infidelity, failed marriages or
refusal to admit how many
love children he has fathered

is any of our business. He
doesn’t believe that his ability
to lie, cheat and deceive those
closest to him should concern
US... because why on earth
should the morality, honour
and character of our Prime
Minister matter?
He probably thinks
negotiating a complicated
divorce settlement and trying
to restore relations with his
estranged kids will help hone
his skills for the Brexit battle.
And what of Carrie? Will No
10 soon be ringing with more
cries of “get off me” and “you
just don’t care for anything
because you’re spoilt”?
Are we seriously not meant
to care when the new sofa WE
have paid of is inevitably
ruined by another BoJo stain?

He’s male, pale and stale...

IN supposedly modern 21st
century Britain, is there
anything more profoundly
depressing than Boris
Johnson being our new PM?
He’s male, pale and stale
and becomes the 20th Prime
Minister to have been to Eton.
Incredibly out of 55 British
Prime Ministers to date, over a
third went to one super elite
boys only school. Wasn’t David
Cameron, the Old Etonian who
got us all into this Brexit mess
in the first place, bad enough?
When she became PM,
Theresa May promised to
tackle Britain’s chronic social
mobility problem. But in April
a report (by the Social Mobility
Commission) said it has been
stagnant since 2014. In her
heart said she wanted people

to “go as far as your talents
will take you” – but in her head
she found room for BoJo,
making him Foreign Secretary
based on no obvious
competence for the role. But
when does competence come
into it when you can reel off a
few sentences in Latin and
have that Eton swag.
Meritocracy is for the birds.
Somehow diversity seems
to have become a dirty word.
But surely we’re precisely in
this mess because of the huge
lack of diversity and equality
of opportunity – we’re led by
too many people who look and
think exactly the same way.
He is the 20th Old Etonian
PM. If we don’t make politics
more reflective of society, he
won’t be the last.
