New residents wanted
The Irish island of Arranmore, home to 469 inhabitants, is recruiting new resi-
dents to help boost its dwindling population. Islanders have started to write open
letters to people in the United States and Australia, asking them to consider mov-
ing there. Located off the northwest coast of County Donegal, Arranmore boasts
Instagram-worthy clifftops, pristine beaches, a close-knit community and... high-
speed Internet! Community leaders, who opened a shared digital workspace a
few months ago, hope this will appeal to remote workers. “We’re the most con-
nected island in the world,” Adrian Begley, of Arranmore Island Community
Council, told CNN. “So we wanted to send a letter to the rest of the world to say
we’re here, we’re open for business.”

Hedgehog road sign
A new hedgehog road sign was launched in the
U.K. by the country’s transport secretary, Chris
Grayling, and will soon be placed on roads
where accident rates are the highest. The new
signage is also designed to reverse the decline
in small wildlife numbers, especially
hedgehogs, whose numbers have more than
halved in the countryside since 2000.

Coco Pops beers
Cereal company Kellogg’s has
partnered with Salford Brewery Seven
Bro7hers to release a beer made from
leftover cornflakes in the U.K. Its “less-
than-perfect” Rice Krispies and Coco
Pops are now used to replace malted
barley in beers, instead of being
discarded. The new drinks are
available for purchase in locations
that already stock this brand.
