he Duke and Duchess of Sussex [above right] chose to keep their son
Archie’s christening a private occasion and they haven’t shared much
of him with the public, which is of course their choice, but I hope we get
to see more of him as he is a royal baby after all! I got christened when my
son David was christened but I don’t know if my Emilie will christen her son
Teddy [above left]. She’s not particularly religious and her boyfriend is from
a Ukranian/Italian family so I’m not sure what his views are there. Polly hasn’t
been christened either, and she tells me she doesn’t want to be. Perhaps it’s
just not as traditional as it used to be.

A

pparently parents are now spending around £1,000
on their children’s proms [below]. I think that’s so
extravagant! I go to award ceremonies and TV parties
so there are occasions where I spend more money
than usual for one night out, but it’s nowhere near that
amount. When my daughter Emilie had her prom, I
treated her to having her make-up done and I bought
her a new dress, but I still didn’t spend very much money.
Some parents can’t
afford to spend
loads so it’s putting
pressure on other
families. And as for
hiring your child a
limo? No way! I’d
be like: ‘Right, I’m
picking you up and
dropping you off
and that’s that!’

ast week, I went to the Two Battalion Summer
Ball at my boyfriend Scott’s [bottom right] army
barracks. The theme was ‘Best of British’ so
obviously we had to be the Spice Girls! Scott
was Scary, I was Geri and my friends Les and Phil were
Baby and Sporty. My Corrie co-star Antony Cotton
was there too as Charlie Chaplin, and his partner
Peter went as George Michael [right]. Scott bought
his catsuit online and got it delivered to my house
rather than his barracks, which meant he hadn’t even
tried it on until the night – it was a woman’s size12-14!
Needless to say, it was very tight and took two of us to
get him in it! It was a struggle and he was very hot in
it, but he really embraced it and we had a great night.
I’ve also almost finished redecorating Polly’s
bedroom. Her new bed has just been put up and
so have the curtains. Even though she’s eight, she
still sneaks into my room during the night when I’m
sleeping, and I wake up to find her in bed with me!
So I’ve told her that her new big girl’s room means
she will have to stop doing that.
It was announced last week that Sue Nicholls
[below], who plays Audrey Roberts, is getting her own
spin-off show to celebrate
her character. Sadly I don’t
work with Sue much – in 13
years, I’ve only done about
20 scenes with her – but I
absolutely adore her. She has
a dry sense of humour and
she’s so complimentary of
others. I remember being so
nervous on my first day on
the Street, because my family
are huge fans. In fact my first
memory is of being washed

in a bowl in front of the fire by my mum so she could
watch Corrie! My very first scene on the soap was
with Beverley Callard [Liz McDonald]. She was lovely
to me, showing me around the studios and offering
me tea. It’s such a friendly place to work.
