changed me physically in terms of strength and
confidence. I’m all for women who lift!

Travelling to New York for Anthony Joshua’s
most recent fight must have been amazing.
Do you and the team get to let your hair
down on trips like that?
That night was history! Afterwards we definitely
do let our hair down. We are all super close.
It’s like a travelling family so we’ll get together
for a drink. I think a lot of people don’t realise
the level of prep and study that goes into those
trips. They are full on days, but good fun. We
can be on air from five until midnight.

Have you ever felt you had to dress a certain
way to be taken seriously?
No, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing
low-cut tops. That’s just not me anyway. What
I wear on air is very much just my style.

Officially, Formula 1 got rid of grid girls last
year. Do you think there’s still a place for
ring girls in boxing?
They know what they’re doing. It’s a job and it’s
always been in boxing – I don’t have an issue
with it. I am a feminist and I am super behind
women, but I don’t think women should stop
doing things like that if they want to do them.

Have you seen a big change in coverage of
women’s sport during your career?
Not a dramatic change but definite changes.
Even just looking at the women on our boxing
team – we have production co-ordinator Jennie
[Blackmore], director Sara [Chenery], producer

Leanne [Johnson-Arnison]. And they are doing
their jobs because they’re the best at it, not just
because they are women. I would like to get
to a point where we don’t have to talk about
‘women’s sport’. When will it just be boxing,
or football, not ‘women’s football’? But in the
meantime, conversation makes change.

Has this summer of women’s sport helped?
Yesterday, when I got a black cab, it struck me how
much it is ‘our time’. The cabbie said to me: ’Are
you watching the Women’s World Cup?’ I was like:

‘Yes!’ The problem we’ve had, in terms of women’s
sport, is you need those household names and
role models and posters and that is exactly what I
think this summer is going to be! This summer has
given sport a great platform for women and young
girls at home to aspire to. The more coverage and
exposure, the better it’s going to get!

Who was your role model growing up?
Darcey Bussell! I went to summer school at the
Royal Ballet School and she came in to sign
some books, and I was so star-struck! I’ve never
met her as an adult, but I’d totally fan girl her.

Are you dating at the moment?
It’s hard with my job because of time. I spend a
lot of time working at weekends and Saturday
nights and travelling, which I’m not complaining
about but it’s hard juggling everything – it’s
hard to have it all right now.

Have you ever met the boxer Tommy Fury,
who is doing this year’s Love Island?
I haven’t, but he’s doing really well and comes
across as a really genuine, nice guy. I couldn’t
believe he’s only 20. He has been on the pads
a lot! I’d like to see more girls in Love Island
using the gym. It’s always the guys on the
weights, but maybe they just don’t show when
the girls do it.

As a professional athlete, is doing reality TV
a good move for him?
I don’t know! It’s a different route, isn’t it? Do
you think he’s going to properly get into his
professional boxing career afterwards? I don’t
know. The majority of fighters you come across
are so focused, but he’s got an opportunity
and he’s only 20. He could come out and be
a celebrity boxer, but I think he’ll go down
the fame route.
