WHYGOTHERENOW?
Lanzarote is one of those destinations whose reputation, not always favourable, often
precedes it. However, scratch the surface and this Canary Island off the coast of Africa
has so much more to offer outside of the popular touristy resorts of Puerto del Carmen
and Costa Teguise. The dramatic volcanic scenery of the Timanfaya National Park –
protected as part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve – and the unique artwork from the
island’s famous son César Manrique are attracting a new type of holidaymaker. Throw
in several luxe new hotels and a cool surf scene and there’s lots to shout about...

WHERECANISTAY?
If you wish to combine sightseeing with a luxury
family holiday, then look no further than the
Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort in the family
friendly resort of Playa Blanca on the island’s
south west tip. This 385-room low-rise hotel is set
in lovely landscaped grounds overflowing with
olive trees, fragrant flowers and water features.
Channel 4’s A Place In The Sun presenter Laura
Hamilton stayed at the five-star hotel with her
young kids recently and said they loved the chefs
doing culinary tricks in the Japanese Teppanyaki
restaurant Kampai, one of the hotel’s eight dining
choices. Couples should book a sea view suite
so they can sit on the balcony and admire the
views across to the island of Fuerteventura. Those
travelling with kids should opt for Royal Kiko family
suites which feature two bedrooms and come with
a PlayStation, DVD player and kids’ mini bar!
