WHATISIT?
Situated on the third floor of London’s Royal
Festival Hall, Skylon offers stunning views
of the Thames and the Southbank below.
Go for lunch or afternoon tea, grab a bite
from the pre- or post-theatre menu, or enjoy
bottomless brunch at the weekend – on
Saturdays there’s live music and a DJ, while
Sundays are a more relaxed affair. Or follow in
OK!’s footsteps and linger over dinner, where
you’ll see the hustle and bustle of tourists
replaced by the twinkling lights of dusk
before darkness falls over the city.

WHYDOWELOVEIT?
The only thing more impressive than the
views from the floor-to-ceiling windows is the
seasonal modern British menu. We started
with the divine Dorset crab on toast, followed

by the deliciously fresh monkfish with
heritage tomatoes. With hindsight, we
probably should have ordered just the
one side dish, but we couldn’t decide
between the cauliflower cheese, new
potatoes and broccoli with romesco
sauce and almonds – and we just
about managed to find room for them
all! Luckily we’d saved space in our
dessert stomachs for a third course –
the chocolate ganache with strawberry
sorbet melted in the mouth and was the
perfect end to an incredible meal.

WHOGOES?
Recent visitors include Dame Julie
Walters and Mel B, who hosted An
Evening With Women’s Aid at Skylon,
where guests enjoyed cocktails, dinner
and a charity auction, with proceeds
going to the domestic abuse charity.

WHATELSE?
Visit before September 30 and you’ll
see The Skylon Hive, a colourful flower
and bee-filled installation surrounding
the central bar, in partnership with
Champagne Laurent-Perrier. Enjoy a
drink at the bar and £1 from your bill is
donated to the Bumblebee Conservation
Trust. We loved the Honey Bear cocktail,
made with rum, amaretto, turmeric and
Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée, served in an
adorable bear-shaped glass!
