H

ow fitting that accessory
designer and self-confessed
shoe obsessive, Charlotte
Simone, chose her Swiss
Cottage family home to hold
her wedding to childhood
sweetheart – property developer Dean
Jaraj. (Who we’re told is very supportive
with a growing Insta-hubby role.)
“At first I was quite nervous about the
day, because I don’t like being the centre
of attention,” she tells us, when meet on a
rainy London morning. “I knew I wanted
to be married in London and it was when I
started looking at venues that I realised I feel
the most comfortable and happy at home.”
So luckily enough her parents have
a large garden and enough space to
accommodate 160 wedding guests. Her
mum turned into “supermum” and, we’re
told, her dad adopted Steve Martin’s
role inFather of the Bride– complete with
the driveway to aisle transformation.
The newlyweds met as 17-years-olds when
they attended brother-sister schools in north
London. “We were on-again-off-again, but
then I came back from New York University
[where she studied literature and art] when
I was 23; and it was serious lock-down time.
We know each other very well.” All the more
reason for them to skip a long engagement:
“We did a quick turnaround. As soon
as we were engaged people started saying,
‘You don’t want a long engagement’.
So that is what spurred us on as well.”
Dean proposed (with a single solitaire
diamond on a white gold band) on
Charlotte’s birthday in December 2017;

they were married the following August.
“He took me to Paris, which he knows is
my favourite place in the world,” she tells
us. “We’d been together since we were
teenagers and thought, why wait?”
Charlotte has always loved fluffy things
and it was while living in New York that a
woman wearing a huge statement scarf
turned her head. “I thought, ‘Wow I
wouldn’t have noticed her or her outfit
if it hadn’t have been for that scarf’.
“But when I did my first scarf collection,
only one of them was fluffy,” she says of
the Popsicle, her brand’s trademark.
“That was the one most people gravitated
towards and the one that got me noticed.
So I decided to run with it,” she says, of the
design that Alexa Chung, Sienna Miller,
Kendall Jenner and Olivia Palermo have
all worn versions of.
It would seem that the pairing was meant
to be, with even the terrifying inflamed eye
infection she had the day before clearing up
overnight. “I woke up and my eye was fine.
And then it started to rain. I remember, my
best friend said, ‘Listen, you can’t have it all.
If you were going to have a swollen eye, or
rain, what would you prefer?’ And I said ‘rain’.”

FLOWERS
“I really wanted the wedding to feel intimate
rather than grandiose; and for me flowers
were a really big part of that. I was introduced
to a girl called Rowan who owns a company
called Rowan Blossom, she does amazing
wild flowers. When we met I loved her and
she totally understood my vision. She helped
me create an English countryside, floral feel.
