he came to our attention earlier this
summer in a heated debate about
plus-sized mannequins on Good
Morning Britain, and now Mandy
Platt tells us that she’s on a mission to
improve the nation’s health. The fitness
coach got into a war of words with Hayley
Hasselhoff and Piers Morgan, who said
they thought Nike’s bigger mannequins
would encourage people of all sizes to
go to the gym. Mandy disagreed, telling
the pair that, in her opinion, neither
‘overweight’ nor ‘stick thin’ mannequins
promote healthy living.
Empty nest syndrome was the catalyst
for fitness guru Mandy Platt’s life-changing
career change. The mum of three’s
confidence hit an all-time low after she
waved her son off to study abroad.

‘My family didn’t need me much at
home any more, and I didn’t know what
to do with myself,’ Mandy tells OK!, as
celebrity hairstylist Gary Cockerill gets her
ready for our shoot. Feeling lost at the age
of 45, she made the bold decision to train
as a fitness instructor – and since qualifying
has accumulated thousands of followers.
She explains: ‘I feel so lucky to have
found my passion in my forties. Now I want
to help women all over the world to be the
best version of themselves.’
Mandy, 52, who begins filming next
month for a new library of workouts, which
will be available on her website, reveals all
about hitting her all-time low and how she
feels better than ever in her fifties...

Why did you disagree with
Hayley and Piers on Good
Morning Britain about plus-
sized mannequins boosting
gym membership?
I’m so passionate about health
and fitness and I feel that using
overweight mannequins isn’t
good for anyone. It’s just not
a healthy shape to aspire to.
Most of my clients start off on
the bigger side but being toned
and healthy is their goal. In my
opinion, overweight mannequins
do not promote healthy living,
it’s just the same as if you had
stick thin mannequins – neither
of these show a healthy size.
We need examples of what it’s
like to be fit and healthy, not
the opposite.
