HEALTH&FITNESS

Have you always been healthy and fit?
No! I used to eat loads of rubbish food and
although I went to the gym and spent hours
running on a treadmill my body still felt
flabby. At my biggest I was only around a
large size 14, but I didn’t feel healthy.

Why did you get into the fitness industry?
I had a lightning bolt moment when I was

  1. My children had grown up and my
husband was busy with his career. Most days
I’d sit in my bedroom on my own. I had no

self-worth and I felt anxious. It was an all-
time low. I needed to do something drastic,
so I enrolled on a personal training course.

How did you feel about starting afresh?
It was really scary. All the other students
were in their twenties, but when I realised
that my age and experience could actually
be an advantage, I got really excited.

What other changes did you make?
I overhauled my family’s diet and my workouts
became fun, short and effective. I became
a toned size 8 and people were shocked by
my transformation. By the time I finished my
course I had a huge list of clients.

MANDY’SMETHODOLOGY
HERFAMOUS//
‘It’s my goal to show women that you don’t have to spend hours every day in the gym to
be fit and healthy,’ says Mandy. Her tummy-toning exercises are so popular and they can
be done at home without any specialist equipment. ‘Think of the stomach as a mattress

  • you can’t get strong until you train the bottom layers,’ she adds. ‘With my 10/10/10
exercises you can target different muscle groups within the core and also improve posture.’
    STEP ONE
Lie on your back with your
    legs flat and arms crossed
    at the chest. Raise your
    chest slightly off the floor
and lower down slowly in a
    controlled way. Do ten reps.

STEP TWO

Lie on your back with legs
flat and keep your arms
crossed at the chest. Come
up slowly to a seated
position and then lower
down slowly. Do ten reps.

STEP THREE

Lie on your back with your
arms stretched out above
your head, slowly rise up
to touch your toes with
your arms still stretched
out, return back to start
position. Do ten reps.
Concentrate on holding your tummy in for all three of the moves and then do three sets of
each, with a 30-60 second rest in between.
