Scale Military Modeller International – August 2019

(coco) #1

some reference shots from the web, and
then attached. I had to sand the top and
bottom of these to get them to it so be
careful. The front headlights were painted
in silver then the clear lenses added and the
areas around them painted to match the
model. The tow rope
had been painted
and weathered
separately glued
in place. To get the
look of steel on this
I painted it very dark
grey, washed in a dust
colour the eyes were
painted green and then
lighter greens painted
on with a sponge. Graphite
from a pencil was then rubbed
on to represent the metal sheen.
Oils mixed to match the vehicles base
colours were now painted onto bolts, hinges
etc which helps them stand out a bit more.
To get the efect of dust
and dirt around the track
pads I mixed some earth
coloured pigments in
water and pasted this
onto the tracks. Once
dry, I used a few
make up sponges
to remove the wash
from the pads. A

little dusting
of pigments was
added here and there
around hatches as well as a few
after-market leaves and grass, ixed
with matt varnish. The graphite pencil was
used again, this time on the tracks. The crew
were now added, these are from MiniArt
and are very good. I carved the detail on
them a bit more with a new blade on a

scalpel before
painting them in
oils and acrylics. They
itted into the drivers and
commanders opening perfectly. To
inish of, I slid the hatch covers in place and
that was it, done!
Well it certainly looks like the new
Bundeswehr IFV, it’s very cleanly moulded
and went together very well indeed. It’s a
fair old size for a model, so I’ll need to move
some Panzers aside on the shelf to display it!
If you’re in to modern armour I’d thoroughly
recommend this model. I’ve seen images of
the desert version, so with a bit of work and
other paint schemes it could make for an
eye-catcher.
