I masked the windows and painted it in sort
of camoulage, using Ammo by MIG Desert
Sand, Camoulage Green and Matt Black,
and the same was applied with the trailer.
The missile tubes were painted in Desert
Sand only. After painting the entire model
revived a coat of Johnson’s ‘Klear’, so that
the decals would adhere properly and not
cause silvering. I then applied a coat of Matt
as I ind that pigments work better on a lat
surface.
One of the missile tubes comes without
a front, and you are supposed to place the
round half way out of the tube using a length
of leftover sprue. The back end of the missile
tube is closed, and if I’m not mistaken the
back end of the tube blows out when the
missile is ired. I suspect they left it in place
so that the piece of sprue meant to hold
the missile will rest against it. I tried
that, but it didn’t right, so I
made some modiications. I
cut out the back end of
the tube, made the
piece of sprue with a cross in the end so that
it would stop it from dropping out the back.
I also made some smoke and ire coming
out of both ends of the tube, using cotton
sprayed with hairspray and pulled into shape
using tweezers. It was then painted this
using a mix of red and yellow to make it look
like a launch. The smoke was added using
Tamiya X-19. Weathering was kept light, as
this was supposed to be a desert vehicle.
So, the wheel rims recieved a few nicks and
scrapes, and I added a little rust in a few
places, dry these areas with Steel. The rest of
the weathering was done using pigments.
I just added a few layers of sand coloured
Pigments from Ammo by MIG. I igured that
since this Patriot was stationed in a desert
area, there would be sand accumulating
all over the place, so irst the pigments
were rubbed over the lat parts, then more
pigments were sprinkled over the missile
launcher, so that the dirt would accumulate
naturally in in and around the ridges on
the containers. To make sure the pigments
stayed in place, some pigment-ixer was also
applied. To sum up then, this is a fairly basic
kit, but with a little imagination it can be
turned into something a little
