Scale Military Modeller International – August 2019

(coco) #1
or closed cab doors. The moulding
quality and the it is outstanding,
with all of the parts showing fantastic
details. This kit was also honoured
with the title ‘Model of the Year’!
Carefully following the
wonderfully styled instruction
booklet, I built the frame of the
chassis irst. The kit does not have
an engine, and only includes the
oil sump and a few details on the
underside (which won’t be visible).
The steerable front axle, drivetrain
and the rear axles were next to be
added. I have decided to use the
compressed springs as I wanted
to add some cargo on the truck.
Further parts such as the fuel
tank, exhaust system,
door steps, front

bar, trailer hitch
and steering arms
were assembled and
mounted next. The
closed engine hood
was next, together with
the completed drivers
cab (except the doors)
including the delicate
levers and pedals. The assembled
cargo bed was left separate for an
easier painting. The assembly of the
trailer went without any diiculties.
The rear axle remains removable if
you do not use too much glue, and
the front axle is movable as well, as
is the coupling. I wanted to paint
the vehicle German Grey with
some dust and dirt and
visible wooden planks on
the trailer. Painting began
with a coat of Vallejo Black
Primer, which guarantees
a perfect adhesion of
the further paints and
also functions as shadow
coat. Instead of the too dark
German Panzer Grey I chose
Vallejo Basalt Grey as the base

RESEARCH

The Faun L900 was a
German truck, built by
Fahrzeugfabriken Ansbach
und Nürnberg AG, and
was mainly used by the
Wehrmacht to carry the
‘Sonderanhänger’ SdAh.115
built by WUMAG (Wagon
und Maschinenfabrik
AG Bautzen). The truck/
trailer-combination was
able to carry up to ten-tons
of cargo and was used to
transport the Panzer I or
other light AFVs during the
World War II.
