I

’d been looking at my
collection of built kits
that are just sitting
there waiting to be
painted, and decided I’d leave the
Panzers for a while so brushed of the
dust from Tamiya version of the M60A
with ERA. I’d built this Tamiya version
of the M60A1 with ERA kit years ago as
I liked the look of the M60, as I’d spent
a bit of time with the US 2nd Armoured
Division when they were just getting
their new M1s but still had a few of
these around. l then decided it was
about time that it got the attention it
deserved. Now this version was
released in 1992 and some parts
showed. So before adding
any paint I got hold of an
etched detail set from Eduard
for the Italeri version (it has

more bits and pieces) a set of new tracks
from Bronco, and a few resin items
such as the canvas machine gun cover
and British smoke dischargers. Other
needed items would come from my
‘spares-box’.
Now apparently Tamiya took the
measurements for this model from
one without and engine, so
it sits a little high. So, to ix
this you can just cut the
wheel supporting
arms by a few
millimetres to

RESEARCH
The program
to develop the
M60A1 was
approved in
early 1960. The
first prototype
pilots attempts
to mate a
modified M
hull with the
T95E7 turret
took place in
March 1960.
The turret,
even without
the siliceous
cored armour,
provided
improved
ballistic
protection.
Additional space
for the turret
crew was also
made available
by using the
M140 mount
thus moving the
cannon 5 inches
forward.
