Infantryman

A

FEw years back
Adalbertus released
miniature of a Polish
Infantryman circa 1939
available in both in 120mm and 1:35
and sculpted digitally by
Grzegorz Kawecki. That
allowed igure to be very
well detailed, with few it
problems. Beside several
resin parts, you also get a
small decal sheet, a small
etched fret with national
insignia, a medal, sling
mounts and an instruction
sheet. I didn’t ind any cast
blemishes besides a small
seam line on legs, and the
igure could be built with a
ield cap or helmet, with his
left hand holding the helmet
(helmet with liner has
been provided in
the kit) or holding a
bayonet.
Removing the
casting blocks was
fairly easy in most cases,
and the main parts are
the torso, arms, hands
and head, and had a
really good it. Thanks
to that I could paint all
these parts separately.
As usual I began with
two thin layers of Dupli
Colour Grey Automotive
Primer. Priming not
only is important as
good base for paint,
but also shows where
any additional work
is needed. After a
few corrections and
another thin layer of
primer I moved
onto the

painting stage proper,
and here I used mainly
Vallejo acrylics. I began by
painting the lesh parts
irst with an initial layer of
Brown Sand (876), adding
shadows using shadows
Burnt Cadmium Red (814)
and more to Brown Sand.
The highlights were applied
using Basic Skin Tone (815).
The rile is carbine model 29
(Karabinek wz.29) modiied
by Fabryka Broni Radom
Mauser 98, and was a standard issue
weapon for Polish Army. The
wood stock was painted with
brown from the Lifecolor
Wood Paint Set and lightly
brushed with dark brown so
lighter brown would show
through. The metal parts were
painted with Tamiya Gunmetal
mixed with black. With lesh
colours complete I moved
onto painting the uniform.
As a base I used Khaki Grey
(880), and added shadows
using a mix of Khaki Grey
and English Uniform. Some
highlights were then
added by drybrushing
on a little Abteilung 502
Sunny Flesh Tone oil
paint.
The backpack was
painted with Khaki
(988) and the blanket
with Hataka Khaki Grey
(A304). The details were
highlighted by adding
shadows with darker
shade and highlights
with lighter shade.
