On 1 Semptember 1939
Germany invaded Poland.
Over 1.6 million soldiers, about
ten- thousand canons and
mortars, over 2700 tanks and
armoured cars and 1300
aircraft took part in
the campaign on the
German side. Poland
had some 1 million
soldiers, 4300 canons
and mortars, 880
tanks and armoured
cars, and 400
aircraft. The Germans
used their new war
doctrine – ‘Blitzkrieg’,
however, Poland
never surrendered,
with the Polish
Government being
evacuated to
France and then
to England.
