lower it. I wasn’t to fussed about the cut
marks as I’d decided that the running
gear was going to be in a muddy and
dusty state from use in theatre. Next,
I removed the sprockets and with a
Dremel tool put the three elongated
holes into them. The side skirt
supporting arms were cut away and
replaced with the detail ones, as was
the rear phone box which I remade and
attached using the etch set. Other brass
details were taken from my spares and
the tow ropes came from an M1 Abrams
kit. I then built the tracks and they went

on fairly well but did take a long time
to assemble. Tamiya textured paint was
now liberally painted on to the lower
hull and also used to represent the no
slip surface. The resin mg mount was
mated to the commander’s copula
with no real problem just needing a
little iller to blend the edges. The light
guards were thinned out and then
added bracing and the correct edge to
them. It was now time to add the crew’s
stowage. Looking at photographs
from the excellent War Machines No.
book on M60s in the Gulf, the amount

of stowage was pretty obvious, so I
started with items from the Tamiya
Modern US Equipment Set. To this I
added more from my ‘spares-box’ and
then tarpaulins made from Green Stuf
putty and a sculpting putty I’d picked
up at a model show. All this was tied
to the turret with either lead straps cut
from sheet or fuse wire. The sandbags
were fashioned from the putty and a
piece of bandage dampened in water,
then pressed into the bags to give
them texture. The air recognition panel
and front tarpaulin were irst rolled
