Model Aircraft – August 2019

(avery) #1
various shades of metal, both new and old and
some partially removed paint. So, here I used
Aluminium, Duraluminium, Gold Titanium,
Magnesium and Steel. I also randomly sprayed
the airframe with a mix of Alclad Mil-Spec RAF
Trainer Yellow and Matt White to get the tomes
I wanted. As there are no decals available for
this subject in 1:48, I created my own from
images found online and cut masks for them
out of Painters tape, painting in the numbers
and lags using Alclad Mil-Spec Signal Red and
Matt White. A couple of washes were then
added to emphasise the panel-lines and rivets,
using Ammo by MIG Deep Brown on the upper
surfaces and Blue Black on the darker parts and
on the engines. After inishing that I gave the
entire model a Matt coat dull everything down,
and then and I mounted the antennae and the
landing gear.
This build was quite a journey, and diferent
to the straightforward build I had initially
imagined. However, it taught me a few lessons,
and also improved by modelling skills, so not all
bad then! MA
