the clock was ticking along nicely! So, irst I laid
down a coat of black primer, and then I applied
a highlight coat of white on various panels to
add some tonal shading for when the base
colours were added. The underside was then
painted a mix of Tamiya Flat White with just one
or two drops of Tamiya Light Grey, and once
dry I again added some pure white highlights.
Next, I used some Blu-Tac sausages to mask the
mid-section and for the next colour, this being
a mix of Tamiya Medium Blue and Sky Blue,
as I wanted this to be quite a vibrant tone to
contrast against the darker upper section. Once
this was dry, I again applied some Blu-Tac and
sprayed on Tamiya Dark Blue. Now I needed to
leave this to dry overnight. Sunday dawned and
the Hellcat was nicely dry, and I set about the
next phase. After a coat of gloss the decals were
applied, and I have to say they conformed very

well to the reassessed details. Another coat of
gloss sealed them in, and I left the model to dry
again. Right, next up was a light grey oil wash to
bring out the panel detailing, and with that dry
I then applied a coat of matt varnish and waited
for that to dry.
Then using a ine brush, I added some
further weathering with highly thinned
oil paints and these blended nicely into the
matt surface, giving a very subtle weathered
look. Next some weathering pigments were
