29 – will mark the 75th
anniversary of Arnhem, one of the
most controversial land battles to
take place in Europe during the
latter days of the Second World
War. We’ll examine the bold allied
plan to seize key bridges of the
Rhine and push the British Army
through the Netherlands and into
Germany, smashing open the door
to Hitler’s Fatherland. It was an
ambitious operation, and while it
met with some early successes, it
ground to a holt amid appalling
losses at Nijmegen – we’ll look at
what went wrong, and why.
