HS BUCCANEER S.2 COLLECTION PT2 (SHEET NO. X72308)


A further eleven Buccaneers on a sheet and a half, tightly covered
in markings. Each one comes with a set of roundels and fi n fl ashes.


● Buccaneer S.2 XV344 ‘325’ with No. 809 NAS based at RAF
Lossiemouth in 1969. The paintwork is overall Extra Dark Sea Grey.
● Buccaneer S.2B XX892 ‘I/Glen Lossie/Sky Pirates’. This is one of
the Buccaneers that had a quick coat of Desert Pink applied over
the standard camoufl age and then off to war in the Gulf at part of
Operation Granby in 1992.
● Buccaneer S.2 XX901 with No. 208 Squadron based at RAF
Lossiemouth. XX901 is seen in a special scheme applied when it
took part in the ‘Red Flag’ exercises in Nevada, USA in 1997. The
original scheme of Dark Green and Dark Sea Grey upper surfaces
and Light Aircraft Grey undersides was part over-painted with a
pattern of ARTF Cream top and bottom.
● Buccaneer S.2 XV869 ‘869/4’ with No. 208 Squadron at RAF


Honington in 1981. The scheme is a wraparound pattern of Dark
Sea Grey and Dark Green.
● Buccaneer S.2B XX895 with No. 208 Squadron at RAF
Lossiemouth. No date is given but in the early 1990s Buccaneers
were turning grey in their old age. This example was in Medium
Sea Grey on the upper surfaces and Barley Grey undersides with
low-vis insignia.
● Buccaneer S.2 XN981 ‘981’ with No. 208 Squadron at RAF
Lossiemouth in 1983. The wraparound camo scheme applies to
981.
● Buccaneer S.2 XT275 ‘235/H’ with No. 801 NAS on HMS
Hermes in 1970. The scheme was overall glossy Extra Dark Sea
Grey.
● Buccaneer S.2 XX901 ‘901’ with No. 216 Squadron at RAF
Honington in 1994. The Dark Green and Dark Sea Grey wraparound
scheme was applied with a Medium Sea Grey framed canopy.

● Buccaneer S.2 XV333 ‘234’ with No. 801 NAS at RAF
Lossiemouth in 1967. This Buccaneer carried the glossy Extra Dark
Sea Grey paintwork.
● Buccaneer S.2B XW986 with the Royal Aircraft Establishment at
RAF Boscombe Down in 1974. This S.2B was in a one-off scheme
Dark Green, Golden Yellow and White, ideal for those wishing to
hone their masking skills.
● Buccaneer S.2 XW529 also with the Royal Aircraft Establishment
at Boscombe Down in 1980. The scheme was a pattern of Dark
Green and Dark Sea Grey on the upper surfaces with Light Aircraft
Grey undersides.

● Buccaneer S.2 XV867 ‘655/LM’ with No. 736 NAS based at RAF
Lossiemouth in 1970. This Buccaneer is in the Royal Navy scheme
of overall Extra Dark Sea Grey.
● Buccaneer S.2 XV345 ‘XV1/2’ with XV Squadron at RAF
Laarbruch in West Germany in 1970. This Buccaneer is in the
scheme that was probably the one used for most of its career in
the RAF of a wraparound pattern of Dark Sea Grey and Dark Green
with two-colour insignia.
● Buccaneer S.2 XN977 ‘230’ with No. 801 NAS when aboard
HMS Victorious in 1966. The scheme is Extra Dark Sea Grey on the
upper surfaces with White undersides, commonly used on early
Royal Navy Buccaneers.
● Buccaneer S.2 XT281 ‘281’, squadron unknown as seen in
1981 in the wraparound Dark Sea Grey and Dark Green colours.
● Buccaneers S.50 G-2-1 with the South African Air Force in the
1970s. This is an interesting alternative to the UK Buccaneers
in a scheme of Dark Sea Grey upper surfaces and PRU Blue
undersides.


One of the options on X72308, a Buccaneer with No. 208 Squadron in the fi nal grey scheme. This was
seen at one of the last RAF Finningley Battle of Britain air shows in September 1991.
