s the June issue of MAI was
being completed, the latest 1:48
kit to roll off the Airfi x production
line arrived on the modelling
desk. Long-since announced, the
creation of one of the most eagerly anticipated
additions to the list of Spitfi res in this scale
will delight fans of the type, and all-but
consign Academy’s severely compromised
offering to the history books. With a month
gone by, we are now able to reveal our build
of this important kit and our thoughts on its
construction and fi nish.
Having initially taken only the most
cursory of glances at the contents of Airfi x’s
wonderfully decorated package, there seemed
to be little in the way of surprises in this kit, the
production, detail and accuracy so prevalent
in their earlier Mk.I/V kits being here in
abundance and now that it is built, that has in
the main been proven to be the case. Moulding
quality is very good, with comprehensive
surface detail, petite panel lines and the odd
smattering of subdued rivets here and there
helping things along. That said, some of the
