56 MODEL AIRPLANE INTERNATIONAL - August 2019
KIT BUILD
masking tape that I rubbed into the frame
corners with a toothpick. I then airbrushed
RLM66 over the canopy frame areas, followed
by fl at black as a pre-shade to the whole
airframe. For my scheme, I decided to loosely
base the model on the one that MBK had on
their stall at Nuremberg Toy Fair. This just
seemed to appeal more than the four supplied
schemes. Instead of the colours that MBK
used, I opted to give an overall coat of RLM65
to things, instead of the paler grey/blue they
used. I also allowed just a hint pf pre-shade
to remain. A couple of tedious hours were
then spent masking off the sections so I could
apply RLM82 Light Green in roughly the same
manner as the MBK demo model. This tape
was then removed, and more masking added
so I could apply the RLM81, completing the
basic splinter camo.
I thought extending this to the centre section
On the same sprues were the ramjet parts. These
were also very simple to build. Notice the short
white styrene bits on the intake vanes. These
were accidentally removed from the kit parts and I
needed to replace them.
Seams removed and
detail reinstated, the nose
cowl was now fi tted to
each ramjet.
An indent on the inner face of each ramjet allowed the rotor to be
cleanly fi tted. A small amount of putty needed to be added at the
leading-edge connection of each ramjet.
RLM66 was airbrushed over the canopy frame areas. Also
note the metal tubes I used for the gun barrels.
Flat Black was used to pre-shade the whole model. A
I now airbrushed surprising amount for such a small creation.
RLM65 over the
whole model allowing
a small amount of
pre-shade to still be
seen.
