KIT BUILD

62 MODEL AIRPLANE INTERNATIONAL - August 2019

I primed the built
up seat in Alclad
Gloss Black
Base Primer
and left it to dry,
then applied a
basecoat in Alclad
High Speed Silver,
in order to chip the
seat. I then airbrushed
some AK Interactive worn effects medium
onto the seat and let it dry, before painting
the seat in H58 Interior Green. Once this had
dried I dampened the area with water and
chipped the green away using a cocktail stick,
exposing the metal colour. I replaced the etch

with Eduard’s steel
belts. These are a marked improvement
in detail and are very malleable, so easy to
manipulate into shape.
As I said previously, there is always a little
extra detail that can be added, in spite of how
good this kit is. I added extra wiring to the
front cockpit bulkhead. For this I used 0.4 mm
Plastruct Styrene rods. I painted the bulkhead
in Mr. Color C351. Once dry, I used some
Citadel Camo Green for the highlights and a
dark wash using my homemade wash, using

a similar approach to the sidewalls and the
tail section.
The instrument panel and side consoles
are mainly black, so they were masked and
painted Tamiya X-18 Semi-Gloss Black.
Eduard have released, in their BRASSIN
Löök range, a replacement resin pre-painted
instrument panel, but to be honest, the kit
panel has much sharper detail, so after much
deliberation I decided to use the kit parts. I
also used the Barracuda cockpit stencils set;
these really do help bring the cockpit to life,
with all of their switch and placard detail. When
the cockpit was all joined up it looked fantastic!
I glued the cockpit it in place and the

First step was to build up
the frame for the pilot’s
seat and rear cockpit
bulkhead. I added the
bolts from my RP Toolz
Hexagonal Punch & Die set
and some sheet Evergreen
Styrene.

I used Mr. Color C-351
as a primer coat for the
interior cockpit parts
and also the tailwheel
framework.
