the fuselage before joining them,
permanently. Tamiya’s fuselage
seams lay onto several panels
that slot in place over the top,
thus ensuring no clean-up or
lost rivet detail.

Moving On...
I now added the engine
bulkhead, complete with
exhaust pipes. The bulkhead
was primed gloss black, before
being painted in Alclad High Speed
Silver.
The P&W R-2800 Double Wasp engine
that Tamiya supply with the kit is superb
straight from the box, but there are a couple
of very noticeable emissions. Inexplicably
Tamiya do not include the prominent ignition
harness nor any oil transfer pipes on the
top of each cylinder block. Thankfully these
are not overly diffi cult to add. I used a set
of micro-drills to drill out the location points
for the transfer pipes and also drilled out the
moulded insertion points that are included
for the ignition harness. I used 0.4 Plastruct
styrene rods bent into semi-circular shapes for
the transfer pipes. All the cylinder components
were then primed using Alclad Gloss Black
Primer and left overnight to dry.

The completed, fully chipped seat. This
just needs a harness added to it now to
complete the look.

I chose to use an Eduard steel
harness, from the Löök set. This
is very easy to use, and is very
malleable and easy to bend
to shape.

The belts added to
the seat and shaped
appropriately.

I painted the cockpit sidewalls and the area where the
