66 MODEL AIRPLANE INTERNATIONAL - August 2019

KIT BUILD

As the markings on this aircraft were so big I decided to paint
them. I used Maketar masks for this purpose. Here the outer
edge of the Stars and bars is stuck in place.

The internal areas of the star masked off, ready for white to be
added.

The white paint added.

Once the internal areas had been painted I added the red outline. The Maketar masks applied for the bottom wing section. Once the process has been followed, similar to the upper wing
marking, this is the fi nished result.

Insignia White, and subsequently weathered
using Ammo Dark Brown wash. I also added
the turbocharger venting which was painted
Interior Green, given a dark wash, then
highlighted using Citadel Camo Green.
A lot of the internal wing structure is visible

through the cockpit once the aircraft is
complete, so it all had to be painted in Interior
Green and the main wing spar, added. Ensure
to check you use the correct parts at this time
as there are separate spars depending upon
whether the wing is to be folded or not.

Once the structure is complete and the
upper wings glued in place, the wing fold
mechanism can be painted, in this case, in
Intermediate Blue. I gave it a dark wash,
before drybrushing a lighter shade of blue over
the details to emphasise these.

I’ve glued the interior wing section in place on the fuselage and also added
the cowls to the engine. These were then primed using a Mr. Surfacer 1200
diluted with Hataka Orange Line thinner.

The fuselage was then pre-shaded
using a very heavily diluted mix
of Hataka Jet Black, thinned with
Orange Line thinner.

The kit is missing
any detail for
the guns on
the outer wing
sections, so
I made these
using some
Albion alloys
tubing and
Evergreen Styrene.

The outer wing
section glued
together, primed and
pre-shade added.
