insignias. I chose the Kabuki tape option,
rather than vinyl, but found this actually made
the masks diffi cult to get into place. This was in
part due to the size of each marking, but also
due to the stickiness of the tape. To get around
this issue I eventually cut the masks into
easy to apply sections and carefully checked
the dimensions to ensure I had applied them
correctly.
The fi rst step on the wing was to add a
further coat of Dark Sea Blue, before adding
the star shape mask and putting down a coat
of white. I, of course, realised at this stage,
that I should have red outlines on the Star &
Bar, rather than Dark Blue. I carefully masked
off the existing symbol and added several
coats of Hataka Traffi c Red, until I was happy
with the shade of the red.
I then turned my attention to the underside
of the wing and pre-shaded it using the
previously mentioned technique, before adding
several thin coats of Intermediate Blue, and
painting the National markings onto one wing.
I sealed the wing panels in Alclad Aqua
Gloss before beginning the decalling and

only decals to be used
on these wing sections were
the stencils, which I applied using
Ammo Decal solutions, before sealing
them in gloss once again. My primary
weathering step was to add a panel line wash.
I used AK Interactive Winter Camo White
Wash on the upper wing and Black on the
underside. Once dry, I wiped all the excess
away and gave the wing a fl at coat using
