wherethearmsarecrampedforroomafterimpact.The
attackanglewillusuallybesteepandacrosstheball,which
will limit speed and increase spin, robbing you of distance.

AfaultI oftenseeamateursmakeisrushingtheirbackswing,
pickingtheclubupsteeplyandquickly.Thisleadstoajerky
motionwheretheyendupdeceleratinginthedownswing
becausethey’veuseduptheirpowertooearly.Itshouldbe
more of a gradual acceleration and this will help with timing too.

Theotherimportantpositionforpowerisextensionofthe
armsafterimpact.Thisisagoodindicatorthatyou’ve
reachedmaximumspeedatthepointofcontact, rotated your
body and transferred your weight correctly.


Animportantswingfeelingformetostarttheswingistotake
theclubawaylowtothegroundandthenpauseatthetop–I
feellikeI canunleashfromthere.InrealityI don’tpause,but
it’sjustafeelingthatallowsthelowerbodytolead the
downswing, which helps maximise my speed.
