TheM1shotshehitclimbedalittle
bitthroughtheairandoftendriftedto
theright.WiththeM5driverwe
increasedtheballspeedby3mphand
withthesamelaunchandlowerspin
- theballwascarryingfurtherand
hittingthegroundwithmoreenergyso
itwasrunningoutfurtherintotal.We
changedtheshaftslightly–itwasthe
sameweightashisM1butjustahair
stifferandithelpedcontrolthe start
lineaswellasaddyards.

Ididhavesomeexpectations,although
Iwasdubiousaboutthenew
technologyinthelatestkitfrom
TaylorMade.I’vegottheTaylorMade
M1indriver,3-woodand5-woodand
allthreeofthemwerefittedforme.I
thinkI wasskepticalastowhetherthe
newrangeofwoodswouldbeableto
offerthatmuchofadifferenceto
warrantthinkingaboutupgrading.But
theresultswereveryinteresting and
certainlyfoodforthought.
I thinkthebigtakeawayformewas
thereductioninthedispersionwithmy
badshots.It’snotnecessarilythe
addeddistance(althoughtherewasa
gainofmaybetenyards),it’smore
aboutreducingtheeffectofthemiss
andmakingthebadshotsbetter.
Thefittingprocessisgood,butfor
methebestthingitoffersisthe
confidenceyougetfromknowingwhat
youhaveinyourhandisright – that’s
worththemoneyinitself.
