fforts to preserve the
world we live in are firmly
in the spotlight currently,
especially when it comes
to reducing the amount
of single-use plastic we use and the
devastation it can cause to coastal
areas and the wildlife that inhabits
them. While some brands have been
slow to act, Adidas is trying to tackle
the global epidemic with its latest
shoe launch.
The Tour360 XT Parley is truly a
one-of-a-kind shoe, because a large
part of it is made from recycled plastic
waste collected from beaches and
coastal communities before it reaches
the sea. It gets its name from the
partnership Adidas Golf has entered
into with environmental organisation
Parley for the Oceans, a global
network where influential people and
companies collaborate on projects to
help stop ocean pollution.
The limited-edition ocean blue and
aqua green colourway utilises
repurposed plastic waste from areas
such as the Maldives, which is then
incorporated as raw material into the
upper of the shoe. The use of upcycled
material falls in line with Adidas’ overall
objective to use 100 per cent recycled
polyester in all apparel and footwear
by 2024. By intercepting plastic waste,
Adidas is committed to the Parley A.I.R.
strategy (Avoid, Intercept, Re-Design).
