invited to the inaugural Augusta
National Women’s Amateur.
“Being able to practice all the
time has helped with my
consistency and confidence,” adds
Fuller. “The facilities are amazing,
and the weather here is a lot better
than back home.” The 17-year-old
now has her sights set on the
University of Florida and is hopeful
she can follow in the footsteps of
former IMG Academy student Paula
Creamer – a Major Champion and
multiple winner on the LPGA Tour.
Many other former students have
made the transition into professional
golf, including the Korda sisters, 2016
PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Emiliano
Grillo and C.T. Pan, who overcame
Dustin Johnson to win his first PGA
Tour title in April. The success of the
academy’s former pupils provides an
extra source of inspiration and helps
drive its students in the classroom and
on the course.
The IMG Academy golf camps,
meanwhile, are an excellent option for
those not wishing to board long term.
Available for those aged 8-18, the
weekly and three- and five-week
programmes are designed for everyone,
from beginners to aspiring pros.
“They get to experience everything,
from how to practise to the mental
game, strength and conditioning
and nutrition,” adds Craggs. “Many
children come here for a summer
camp and sign up as full-time
students, so it’s a great taster of
what the academy can offer.”
If you’re of a certain age and find
yourself wishing you could turn
back the clock a few years, you’re
probably not alone. However,
perhaps you’re young enough to make
those professional dreams come true.
