Marking the 10th anniversary of the
original Spider putter, TaylorMade’s
new Spider X features a redesigned
frame, new alignment system and
updated ‘Pure Roll’ insert.
After studying over 10,000
putts hit from 12 feet, TaylorMade
discovered that golfers strike putts
towards the toe 66 percent of the
time. This fi nding was the genesis for
the ‘True Path’ alignment system.
An optically-engineered vision
system is designed to offer
improved path and clearer vision to
eliminate the issue of toe strikes, the
alignment system enhanced through
the use of contrasting colours.
Despite possessing a more
compact and streamlined shape than
the previous Spider Tour and Spider
Mini models, more weight has been
shifted to the outside of the new
model’s frame to maintain MOI and
forgiveness.
The Pure Roll insert, used on
the PGA Tour by Jason Day, Dustin
Johnson and Rory McIlroy among
others, has been thickened for
improved sound and feel, while the
12 grooves measure just .5mm in
depth and interact with the cover
of the golf ball more to improve
topspin and forward roll at impact.
