coverofyourmagazine(AMC#109).It wasa

greatreadandyourpublicationdidourfamily

proud.Myfather,HowardFrankenberg,was

therstownerofthisspecialcar.

TheMonarowaspurchasednewbyhim

throughWatsonsHoldenafterhetradedin

hisEHHolden179,in NeptuneBlue.Hehad

purchasedthatnewalsobeforetheMonaro.

DadwontheVictorianmiddleweightboxing

championshipin 1969andhewasa regular

ghteronTVRingsideonChannel7 backin the

1960sandearly1970s.

TheMonarowaspurchasedjustafterhe

purchasedournewly-builtfamilyhomein

DiamondCreekandhewonthetitle.Weall

havethattimein

lifewherewepeak.Dad’swasin 1969.

Thecarremaineda familymember for 37

years,whenhereluctantlysoldit due to his

kneesfailing.Atthattime,whenhesold it to

Tony,$37Kwasbigbucks!

Fastforwardnowandhehasnew knees and

hetotallyregrettedsellingthecarto this day, but

happyit wentto Tonygivenwhathehas done

withit. However,hestrugglesto seethe car as

it remindshimof a ‘lostlove’thatheshouldn’t

havepartedwith.Thatsaid,heis loving the

attentionthecaris getting!

SincesellingtheMonarohehaspurchased

a mintVZBlackMonaroin stunningcondition.

It doesn’tll thevoidof sellingtheGTS 253, but

hedoeslovethenewMonaro.

WeareanAussiemusclecarfamily. My  rst

carat 17wasanoriginalXAGTcoupe and I have

ownedthreeoriginalGTFalconsandnow own VF

SVs.WegrewupwithGTsandGTS Holdens.

I remembergoingwithmyDadback in 1969

pickupthebrandnewMonaro,then driving

aroundto justaboutevey mateandfamily

member he had in Victoria that night! It wasjust

priceless.

That car has so much family history and was

cared for like a baby by Dad. It was his pride

and joy and reminds him when he was on top of

his game in ’69 when the car was purchased.

My family wasn’tsurprisedwhenit madethe

cover of Australian

MUSCLE CAR

as the car since

new has always

been the centre

of attention.
