Kate Gosselin’s
oldest daughters
Mady and Cara,
both 18, are headed to
different colleges in New
York City this fall. “They’re
both so excited,” Gosselin, 44,
says. “They agreed all along
that they don’t want to go to
the same school, because
their ambitions are so
different.” The mother of
eight says she has “mixed
emotions” about the twins’
move to the big city from
their Pennsylvania home—
and she’s already sweating

the logistics. “Within six days
Mady has to be dropped off,
Cara has to be dropped off,
and the little kids begin their
first day of high school,” she
says. “Keeping straight the
deadlines and dates for two
different schools is
mind-blowing. The best
advice I’ve heard is not to feel
too obligated to stay. The kids
don’t really want that;
eventually you have to be the
one to drive away.” Gosselin
adds, “We are all going to miss
them. I don’t care if they only
come home to see the dog—as
long as they come home!”

They’re Ready!
Mady (left) “is
likely to have
been designing
her dorm room
for the past three
years,” says
mom Kate, while
Cara “is super-
independent.”

Graduation
Day Tears
“It didn’t sink in how
momentous it was until
‘Pomp and Circumstance’
started to play,” Gosselin
recalls. “I instantly
started sobbing.”
