W

hat are you like in
the makeup
chair? I’ve
worked
predominantly
with the same
makeup artist,
Lauren Gott,
since I was 13 years old. There’s so much trust there
that I’m always down for a look as long as my skin is
kept really fresh. I don’t wear foun dation; we just
do spot touch-ups. Then from there we do
something fun with the eyes or lips, usually not
both at the same time. A little bit of glitter? That’s
pretty conservative for me, I’d say.
Are you a skin-care obsessive? Oh, definitely. I
have an encyclopedia of products in the back of my
head that I just want to tell people about. I stand by
[skin pro] Marie Veronique—her retinol, cleanser,
and face oil get the job done. I’ve had bouts of acne
before that caused mild scarring on my face. The
retinol has done wonders. A lot of people say, “Oh
my god, you have such good skin.” And I’m like,
“This is a new thing!”
What’s the wackiest beauty treatment you’ve ever
tried? I was getting a facial the other day with Shani
Darden, and she said she was going to put me in an
oxygen dome. I was like, “Excuse me? What is this
dome you speak of ?” It looks like one of those things
you sit under when you’re getting your hair done,
but it goes totally over your face and then shoots a
lot of oxygen around. I’ve been glowing for days.
Where do you draw the line with beauty experi-
mentation? I don’t think oxygen domes and blood
facials are necessary—not that I’ve done the blood
facial before. But generally speaking, when I’m
presented with the opportunity to do something
kind of crazy in the name of beauty, I do it. Because
why not? Except for permanent makeup—I would
not do that. Like microblading? If I microbladed my
eyebrows, they’d probably take up half of my face.
You’ve been in front of a camera since you were
little. What grounds you and keeps you feeling your
best? I’ve been journaling for two years now, and
it’s been incredible for my well-being. To get my
thoughts out of my head and onto a page is cathartic.
I’m different at 19 from how I was at 16. I think I
owe a lot of that to just growing up. Being self-aware
has most certainly helped. But I find that, being a
perfectionist, I can’t put any more pressure on my
“nightly rituals” because then it would stress me
out if I didn’t do them. Like, “Oh my god, I didn’t
cleanse my crystals!” That would just have the
opposite effect. So I keep it super-duper simple for
myself. —DIANNA MAZZONE
